Time to plan your wedding photography

6 weeks before your wedding day I’ll send you over some questions about the logistics of your wedding day. I get the lowdown on how you expect it to run and what’s important to you both on the day. You’ll send me a list of family photos and we’ll work out a time line for the running of the day.

Your wedding day has arrived!

I’ll rock up, ready to go, about 2.5 hours before your ceremony is due to kick off. We’ll get some deadly pictures of you and your family and bridal party hanging out and then it’s time to crank things up a notch. I’ll be there by your side the whole day. You get married and have one of the best days of your life. Simple right?

– Sean and Mark

Laid back wedding photography for couples who want gorgeous wedding photos without the fuss.

I shoot around 40 weddings a year. Could I shoot more? Physically, yes, but I like to keep it around 40 so I can connect with each couple personally. I want to be your friend. I don’t want you to feel like I’m only there because I’m being paid to be there. I genuinely love wedding photography and I want to give you the best possible wedding photography experience. So I keep my numbers small.

By doing this, I can tell your unique story in a meaningful and authentic way. If this sounds good to you hit me up, I’m dying to shoot your wedding!

How to choose a Wicklow wedding photographer

You’re going square eyed looking at wedding photographers, you thought you knew what you wanted but now, you’re even more confused than when you started because you didn’t know where were so many different types of wedding photographers? I totally get it.

Choosing the right Wicklow or Dublin wedding photographer shouldn’t be that hard. The 3 most important things to consider are wedding photography prices, the wedding photography style, and most importantly the wedding photographer’s personality.

I’ve written way more about this below, so put the kettle on and read on, I’ve got you!

What is your wedding photography budget and how much a wedding photographer cost in Ireland?

Wedding photography in Dublin & Wicklow can vary significantly in cost, from a few hundred to several thousand euros. It’s important to determine what you can realistically afford and to explore the market to understand the value you’re getting for your money. A good photographer is an investment, so prioritize quality within your budget.

“Why is wedding photography so expensive?”

Expensive is subjective, what you can afford might not be what someone else can afford. Also you might value different things, and that’s ok. A few things that influence the cost of wedding photography are:

  • Insurance – is your photographer insured? This is definitely worth checking out in case something happens, you want them to be covered.
  • VAT & Tax – if your photographer has to pay the taxman they have to include it in their pricing.
  • Numbers – most wedding photographers are one person bands so they can only do a certain number of weddings a year. The price is usually the result of the cost of doing business divided by the number of weddings they do a year.
  • Demand – if a wedding photographer is in hot demand then can raise their prices to reflect that.
  • Photo storage – most professional photographers will keep your photos for a while after your wedding and that costs money!
  • Professional camera & computer gear – you think a phone is expensive? Don’t even look at the price of cameras and lenses, trust me, it’s eyewatering.

Thats just a few reasons, there are many, many more. So try not to be swayed by other peoples opinions. If you’ve found a photographer you love, and you can afford them, then stop shopping around and move on to the next stage of wedding planning.

Why such a range in pricing when it comes to wedding photography in Ireland?

The price of a wedding photographer can vary wildly from €800 all the way up to €8000+. So why the big difference? Well it depends on what the photographer is offering you:

  • Is there an engagement shoot or a post wedding day shoot included?
  • Sometimes there’s more than one photographer, we call this a dual sooting team or a second shooter
  • There might be an album included, what size is the album? Are there parent’s albums included? Maybe there’s prints in there too.
  • Is there a rush fee included so that you skip the edit queue?
  • Some wedding photographers include drone and film photography

So, do you see where I’m going with this? It’s important to look at the packages and what they’re actually offering you and what you actually want for your wedding photographs.

Choosing the Perfect Wedding Photographer

Planning a wedding is an exciting journey, filled with countless decisions that will shape one of the most memorable days of your life. Among these decisions, selecting the right wedding photographer is crucial, as they will capture moments that you’ll treasure forever. Here are some essential tips to help you choose the perfect photographer for your special day.

Define Your Style

Before you start your search, consider what kind of photos you want. Are you dreaming of traditional, posed photographs that focus more on formal portraits in a more editorial photography style? Or do you prefer candid, documentary-style images that tell the story of your day in a natural and spontaneous way? Identifying your preferred style will help you narrow down your options. I’m shoot of mix of documentary wedding photos and more candid style posed photos. So you get the best of both worlds.

Set a Realistic Budget

Wedding photography can vary significantly in cost, from a few hundred to several thousand euros. It’s important to determine what you can realistically afford and to explore the market to understand the value you’re getting for your money. A good photographer is an investment, so prioritise quality within your budget. My Wicklow & Dublin wedding photography prices start at €2800.

Assess Personality and Fit

Meeting potential photographers is key. You’re going to spend a lot of time with your photographer on your wedding day so you’ll want to make sure you get along well. That they’re on the same wavelength as you when it comes to the vibe of your wedding day. Discuss their experience, style, and pricing, but also pay attention to how comfortable you feel with them. It’s important to choose someone whose personality meshes well with yours and who understands your vision.

Review Full Galleries

Once you’ve shortlisted a few photographers, request to see full galleries of weddings they have previously shot. This will give you a comprehensive view of their work and their ability to capture a wedding day from start to finish. Focus on consistency and their knack for capturing emotions and details. I usually reply to an initial enquiry with 2-3 full galleries so you won’t even need to chase this from me. I try to provide them from your venue and the time of year you’re getting married.

Book Early

Great Dublin & Wicklow wedding photographers are in high demand, so it’s wise to book your preferred choice as soon as possible. This ensures their availability on your wedding day and gives you peace of mind knowing that your memories are in capable hands.

Choosing an Irish wedding photographer is about more than just hiring someone to take pictures; it’s about selecting a storyteller who will document one of the most important days of your life. By considering style, budget, personality, and experience, you’ll be well on your way to finding the perfect photographer to capture your special day.

What do you need to know about wedding photography prices in Ireland?

A wedding is not cheap, no matter what way you split it up, it is a luxury product, so the first thing you need to do is prioritise. You need to make a list of your noon-negoatiables and work from there. Some things will be really important, so for me Wedding Photography, Videography, Band, Food, Flowers & the Dress were all really important for me. For you, it could be different but you won’t know until you make that list. I call my Wedding Photography packages an investment and I don’t say that lightly. Once the wedding is over, the only thing you’ll have left to look back on is your wedding photos so you want to make sure you like the wedding photographer and the style of photographs that they produce.

Katie Kav Photography is a fun and candid documentary wedding photographer with a dash of editorial wedding photography thrown in for good measure because I know the portraits are just as important as the candid moments. I work all around Ireland including Wicklow, Dublin, Wexford, Waterford, Carlow, Meath & Kildare. I offer set and customisable packages to suit whatever your wedding photographer needs are, My relaxed and laid back style means I tell your story just for you giving you a set of wedding photos that will bring you back to how your wedding day felt and looked.

How to make a wedding photography budget?

Who doesn’t love a spreadsheet? No doubt one of your friends has ones, if not, give me a shout I’ll give you mine. The cost of a wedding can vary wildly depending on what you’re looking for. And as discussed above, the price of wedding photography really does depend on what you’re looking to include in your pacakge. Drop me a line using the link below and let’s talk about how we can work together on your wedding day.

How to know which wedding photography package is right for you?

Consider all your options and see what feels right. The majority of people want coverage from morning prep through until dancing with an album. This is the standard wedding photography package. Then there are add ons and customisations available to tailor the packages to suit your needs. I have 2 album options which you can see in link below.

I do offer different wedding photography packages which cover all wedding eventualities, so if you’re having a Traditional, Alternative, Small, Modern, Destination, Luxury, Boho, Laid Back wedding I have you covered. If you have absolutely no clue where to start, with no idea how much time things take on a wedding day or what you’re going to need, then give me a shout and we can work through it to find a wedding package that suits your needs.
