NEW YEAR’S EVE WEDDING AT WATERFORD CASTLE – JILL & JOE

waterford castle wedding reception photography

If you love castles then you’ll love this New Year’s Eve wedding!

Jill & Joe got married in the beautiful Waterford Castle on New Year’s Eve. They had a fun filled castle wedding, with so much style, love and a massive christmas tree! Waterford Castle Wedding Photography

The couple met at a bar, just days after Jill had relocated to London to chase her dream job. They are so much craic. When we facetimed we talked more about board games and our favourite drinking spots than the wedding!

Getting ready

Jill got ready at home with her family and friends, and there was such an welcoming atmosphere as soon as I arrived. She wore a gorgeous vintage style lace dress. The girls hitched a ride in a Vintage style Regent car, think cream Rolls Royce.

Joe got ready at Jill’s aunt Mary’s house, with his brothers and cousin, then made their way to Waterford Castle to greet their guests and maybe have a sneaky pint. He looked extremely dapper in a modern navy tux with black lapels and dicky bow.

The ceremony

The ceremony took place in the grand entrance hall of Waterford Castle. It was was filled with flowers and the biggest Christmas tree I’ve ever seen, which was so perfect, it really helped to keep the festive mood alive. They began with a procession of gorgeous flower girls and page boys, and finished with them walking down the aisle and being showered with confetti, probably the best confetti shot I’ve ever taken. After all these years I still find ceremonies so emotional, especially the music!

We didn’t have to go far for the portraits, Waterford Castle has so many stunning spots no matter the time of year or weather for that matter. No travel time gives everyone more time to relax and the couple a chance to catch their breath and spend some quality time together. Then it was party time, which is always the perfect time for me to get candid photos everyone wants.

The reception

Jill and Joe chose to have their wedding at Waterford Castle because it’s close to where Jill grew up and it’s so cosy and festive. The Castle is on it’s own private island, so it’s got such a lovely vibe, it’s accessible via ferry which means you’re so far removed from your day to day life.

For the reception, the couple had organised a Prosecco reception and a saxophonist for their guests, and everyone had so much fun – the guests certainly made the most it! Speeches were in the great hall held beneath the huge Christmas Tree. People were crying and laughing in equal measure, the perfect balance for speeches.

The party Waterford Castle Wedding Photography

Dinner was called and seeing as the speeches were over, everyone was so much more relaxed. The drinks were flowing, and the atmosphere was electric. In the excitement of it all, they nearly forgot to cut the cake.

The band High Definition kicked off with Stand by Me and from there, all bets were off. It was party time. I’m not sure how the evening ended but there were tales of dance offs and tequila slammers and sing songs, the sign of a good Irish wedding if you ask me.

I loved this festive New Years Eve wedding so much. If you’re getting married and looking for a Waterford Castle wedding photographer, give me a shout. Without further ado, here are the photos!
