Up Themed Wedding – Caroline + John

A laid back wedding with a couple who don’t take life, or themselves too seriously!

Caroline and John first got in touch with me about their Up themed wedding in Waterford over Christmas, I was so excited. They had both been married before and they were planning a laid back family wedding with a first look, a light-up dance floor, and an Up themed wedding cake! Caroline and John seemed like the loveliest people and I couldn’t wait to shoot their wedding!

Getting ready

I rocked up at Caroline and John’s house, where Caroline was getting ready. Caroline wasn’t there… but John was, so we sat down to a cup of coffee and biscuits before the real work began. Caroline arrived back soon after and I instantly felt like one of the family. It was a very calm morning, just how I like it.  Caroline wore an ivory embellished lace dress and John wore a navy suit with a grey waistcoat and white tie, they both scrubbed up pretty well.

The “first look”

Caroline and John wanted to get as many of their group photos done before the ceremony as possible as they were getting married later in the day for a Winter wedding. Otherwise, we’d have been doing all the group pictures in the dark. Their family friend owns the Ballindud Mill & Cottage, a gorgeous little pink and white cottage on the Tramore Road just outside Waterford City so we headed there around 1 pm to get the group photos and couples photos out of the way. They didn’t want a traditional first look, they just wanted to get some nice photos of them and their family and pals. Not a bad shout if you ask me.

The ceremony

The ceremony took place in the function room of the Woodlands Hotel. The room was transformed into a winter woodland with trees lining the light-up aisle and a stunning flower wall as a ceremony backdrop. I never saw that room look as well as it did that day.  They began with a procession of gorgeous flower girls and page boys, and finished with them walking down the aisle arm in arm as husband and wife!

The reception

Caroline and John chose to have their wedding ceremony and reception all in the one venue. It meant the party kicked off as soon as the ceremony ended with live music by Something Blue to keep everyone in the festive spirit. The drinks were flowing, and the atmosphere was electric.

After dinner, the band,The Pearls, kicked off the proceedings with a massive circle round the LED dancefloor and it wasn’t long before everyone was busting moves and throwing shapes. It was officially party time and time for me to make a quick exit before another Dolly Parton track dragged me back to the dancefloor!

I loved this festive almost New Year’s Eve Christmas wedding so much. If you’re getting married and looking for a Waterford wedding photographer, give me a shout. Without further ado, here are the photos!
