A Joy-Filled, Sun-Soaked Wedding at Poulaphouca House | Documentary Wedding Photography in Co. Wicklow
If you’re dreaming of a relaxed, laughter-filled wedding with an emphasis on real moments and zero awkward posing, Nicola & Arron’s big day at Poulaphouca House in Co. Wicklow might be all the inspiration you need.
These two legends tied the knot on what turned out to be the hottest day of the year so far. And while we were all more than a little melted, the heat didn’t stop the fun for a second. From morning prep to dance floor chaos, this was a day full of belly laughs, happy tears, and incredible energy — exactly the kind of day that makes candid, documentary-style photography shine.
The Brief: “If We Look Good, Take Our Photo”
When your couple says this, you know it’s going to be a fun one. Nicola & Arron wanted to be present and enjoy every minute of their wedding — not stuck in stiff poses or missing the action. That’s the magic of documentary wedding photography: it allows you to relive the real, raw, joyful moments exactly as they happened.
And their day was packed with them.
Morning Mayhem in the Bridal Suite
At one point, there were eight of us squeezed into the bridal suite — it was pure, sweaty chaos in the best possible way. Hairspray, steamers, Prosecco, and big laughs — exactly the kind of candid scenes that make for the best photos.
An Outdoor Ceremony with a Twist
Their ceremony took place outdoors, under cover (a smart choice on a scorcher of a day), with a much-welcomed breeze. It had everything — laughter, emotion, and a genius surprise: Arron’s uncle as the unexpected ring bearer. Guests had to lift their chairs to find the rings taped underneath — pure gold!
Trad Tunes & High Energy Vibes
After the ceremony, guests took a short walk to the drinks reception where Trad Dispute got the party started immediately. We’re talking full-on dancing before dinner was even mentioned. The vibe? Electric.
And it didn’t stop there.
Dancing From Dinner to Dusk
Dinner took place in another part of the grounds, just a short dander across the gardens. From the moment Nicola & Arron entered the room, the energy was unreal. Their music choices were spot on, and not going to lie — I may have been bopping along behind the camera the whole way through.
One of the standout features of Poulaphouca House is the separate music room. No waiting around while tables are cleared or the band sets up. You simply float from dinner to dancing, with just enough time for a few sunset portraits by the water — some of my favourite images from the day.
The Perfect Ending
I left them on the dance floor, surrounded by their best people, totally in the moment, and having the time of their lives.
If you’re planning your wedding at Poulaphouca House (or anywhere in Wicklow or beyond!) and want a photographer who captures the real moments — the laughter, the chaos, the tears and the tunes — I’d love to hear from you.
Let’s tell your story the way it actually felt.
