Irish Professional Photographers and Videographers Association Awards
At the end of last month I decided to join the Irish Professional Photographers & Videographers Association. I received Licentiateship membership, which is what all first year members receive. The IPPVA was founded in 1949, and has practising members located throughout the country. By ensuring that you are dealing with an IPPA member, you are giving yourself the peace of mind and added security of a professional service provided by a qualified photographer. You can learn more about the organisation here. Irish Professional Photographers and Videographers Association Awards
My reasons for joining were pretty simple. I wanted to be part of a legit group of photographers who respect the industry and uphold the values of a professional organisation. I also wanted to enter theIrish Professional Photographers and Videographers Association Awards. The awards are pretty prestigious. They are judged by professional photographers who are members of the organisation. There are also some guest judges, also professional photographers, who are not members of the organisation. The judging is pretty harsh, but fair. The aim is learn from the critique and increase the quality of work produced. With 2 days to go before the deadline, I decided to submit some images. Out of the 15 images I submitted, 9 were Highly Commended and 2 of those images got me in the final of the Wedding Photography category. I never in a million years thought I’d get one single award. I’m not being humble. The standard is really high, and the technical requirements kind of scared me. I kind of knew the areas I needed to improve on, this was confirmed in the critique of my images. So be announced as a finalist and be listed twice is the 100 best wedding photographs of the year is pretty damn good.
I’ve shared all 9 Highly Commended images below. The award ceremony happens at the end of April, I’ll be sure to blog about how it went. I might even put up a picture of me in a fancy frock.
Thanks so much to all the judges of the Irish Professional Photographers and Videographers Association Awards. I can’t wait to get all dressed up for the awards night in Dublin at the end of April. Good luck to all the finalists.
