Prep

I tell my grooms, to be showered and part dressed, ie. pants and shirts, with just the finishing touches to be done. These make for some great photographs with the guys. More importantly, it gives them something to do while the photographer is there. As with the bride, insure all the grooms accessories, ties, socks, cufflinks etc are all in one place ready to be photographed as soon as the photographer arrives.

Most grooms these days will have a suit tailored especially for them for their wedding day. If this isn’t in the budget, buy a high-street suit and bring that to a tailor (thanks to my good friend Gillian Walsh for that tip). See those slits on the back of your jacket, they shouldn’t bee sewn up so make sure to remove them before you leave. If you think it’s going to be a hot day, have a back up shirt so you feel (and look) fresh throughout the whole day.

Shoes

Sounds silly but you wouldn’t believe the number of people who don’t remove the stickers from the soles of their shoes before walking down the aisle. I’m looking at you ladies too!

Button holes

I can’t count the number of times I have arrived to a grooms house to find everyone stressing over how to pin a button-hole. At this stage I’m a dab hand at getting them on but this distracts me from photographing what’s happening in the room. Watch a couple of YouYube videos and learn how to do it or better still, listen when the florist tells you how to do it.

The main trick here is to not have the pin showing. Two pins are definitely better than one to make sure they stay on all day long. They should sit below the actual button hole on the left hand side of the jacket.

I hope you enjoyed this post, Groom’s Prep Photographs – are they important . Comment below or drop me a line with any questions you might have that you would like answered and I’ll do my best to answer them.
