Newman University Church, Dublin Wedding Photographer – Diana & Matt

I’m so grateful for Annie in Aislinn Events for putting me in touch with Diana & Matt to be their photographer for their Newman University Church, Dublin Wedding. They were coming from the States and needed a hand with the logistics of organising a Dublin City wedding… during a pandemic. This is where Annie comes in. She pulled all the vendors together to create a seamless day for this pair so they could get down to the important stuff, having the best craic possible on their wedding day.

Destination Wedding Dublin, Ireland

I’ll admit, when they got in touch in March 2021 to say they, and their 15-25 guests, were planning to come over from New Jersey to celebrate their wedding in Ireland in August 2021, I didn’t hold out much hope. I’m a realist and Ireland wasn’t in a good place Covid wise. This optimistic pair were not deterred. We had a chat about their wedding day and 2 things that were important to them. The ceremony came first. Matt’s Notre Dame college friend, now priest, was coming with them and he was going to perform a very personal ceremony for them in the Newman University Church on Stephen’s Green. Next up, creamy pints of Guinness. As a Notre Dame alumni, Matt had been to Ireland, and sampled our sweet sweet nectar, and had been dreaming of it ever since.

As predicted, their wedding ceremony in Newman University Church on St Stephen’s Green was highly personal. With beautiful harp music, meaningful readings, and heartfelt vows, there wasn’t a dry eye in the house.

Dublin City Centre Wedding Photos

The couples portrait portion of the day is where I really come into my own. ESPECIALLY in Dublin City Centre. You see, I don’t want it just to be a stroll through Stephen’s Green because ‘its’ nice for photos’. I take the time to plan a meaningful session with my couple. We discuss favourite places, meaningful spots, or just places they like to go. So we can plan a mini date on their wedding day. That way it doesn’t feel like couples portraits, it feels (and looks) natural. No two couples are the same, so no two weddings are the same, even more so at Dublin City Centre weddings.

So we headed through St. Stephen’s Green, to the good stuff. We stopped for a mini drinks reception in O’Donoghues where the bar staff kindly let Diana in behind the bar to pull her own pint of Guinness. People say “American’s love that stuff”. Well let me tell you, I’m Irish and I love that stuff. Diana (and Matt) was delighted. She was also delighted she got to polish off said pint. We spent a good hour in O’Donoghues, hanging out, drinking pints and chatting with locals. From there we trotted down Grafton Street towards St Andrew’s Church on Suffolk Street. This had ties to Matt’s college Notre Dame. From there it was a short hop, skip and a jump through Temple Bar to the infamous Merchant’s Arch pub for their evening reception. This is where I left them to while away the wee hours with their nearest and dearest on their wedding day.
